Kur'an (ar. القرآن) je sveta Allahova knjiga koja jeobjavljenaAllahovom poslaniku Muhammedu s. a. v. s. u periodu od610. do 632.godine, i to 13 godina u Meki i 10 u Medini. Arapskariječ Kur'anpo svom je obliku infinitiv, koji u bosanskom jezikuprevodimoglagolskom imenicom. Prema tome, riječ Kur'an znači"čitanje" ili"sakupljanje". Korijen ove riječi su 2 arapska glasa:kaf (ﻕ), ra(ﺭ), te sukun (ّ ). U svim oblicima koji su izvedeni izovogkorijena proteže se jedno glavno značenje te riječi, a toje"sakupiti". Kur'an se čita ili, kako je to uobičajeno rećimeđubosanskim muslimanima, "uči". Neki islamski učenjaci smatrajuda jeKur'an nazvan tim nazivom zato što u sebi sakuplja i sadržiajete,sure, zapovijedi, zabrane, obećanje, prijetnje, vijesti oprošlimnarodima itd.
